Halloween is one of the most exciting yearly celebrations both adults and children look forward to. It’s that time of the year where they’re able to dressed up as a scary vampire or ghost and have fun with family and friends. But do you know when people started wearing Halloween costume?
People started wearing it to celebrate the Celtic festival of Samhain every October 31 or November 1. Starting in 16th century, people would disguise themselves wearing costume and recite songs and verses visiting houses in exchange for food. In the 19th century, Scottish youth would threaten to do mischief, or in modern-day term “pranks,” to homeowners unless they’re welcomed. This tradition of wearing Halloween costume was particularly appropriate during nights when supernatural beings could be imitated by humans. The origin of trick or treating, on the other hand, was connected to Christian customs where groups of children dress up in costumes and go around houses singing songs and begging for cakes. Nowadays, Halloween costumes and accessories are available in different shapes, sizes, shades and varieties. You can be a cute or sexy zombie nurse, a horror film character and other. You can dress up whoever you want to be.
