What can you do in the cloud, you ask? And we're not talking about those white fluffy things in the sky which bring about an overcast, rainy day. The answer is, well, a lot! There's actually a whole network of servers available for you to utilize in the cloud, from mail, to music, to photos and documents. The cloud is essentially a clever term for the internet, and when you do basically anything on the internet, you're technically "in the cloud"; connecting your computer, to a remote database. For example, storing your data in the cloud gives you the ability to access that data from virtually any location, as long as there is internet access. Say good-bye to hard drives and miscellaneous external storage devices! There are various applications which run in the cloud, called web apps. These apps don't need to be installed like ordinary desktop apps, allowing for a more convenient and flexible flow of information and storage. Cloud storage is a hybrid of both public and private usage. Public cloud storage gives you the extra benefit of disaster recovery, data management and cost savings, since there is no need for the purchase of extra storage space. Not only is the cloud used for its sociability and flexibility benefits, but it is most often used for its storage capabilities and application selections.
